Why I Left the Old Calendarists
[Note by me: Contrary to the authors assertion, we never engaged in debates. There are no old debates. I simply asked him some questions, and he wrote these long and detailed responses. At the beginning of his presentation, he questioned my motives, which is a fallacy (Appeal to Motive).
"Greeting in Jesus Christ our Savior.
I hope you are well.
I already answered your question, but you apparently read right past it. Read it
again carefully and you will see there is no '' true orthodox'' group to which I
could belong, but only the really *one* undivided communion of Orthodox
churches. We can discuss that another time....
all the ''true orthodox'' groups have strayed following Pantaleimonite and
Matthewite fabrications, exaggerations, and mutilated distortions of the published
statements of 20th century saints and synods of all groups. We can talk about
that in detail at a later, better date. But even without that, do you really
believe [deleted] has the truth and the grace of God, and everyone else is going astray to hell? That is their position, and you
should know that already, and know its wrong, as they privately know it is not
believable even to themselves. You do not need to discuss this further with
them, and I ask you not to pass on what I say, either as it will only provoke
and hurt them and me and Christ ultimately, as I will explain. They are where
they are because it is hard to give up your longtime opinions and habits of
thought, to admit grave mistakes, when you are such public figures as they are.
There is shame, and I hope rather to win them over to the truth in time with
patient and kindly relations, a good example of life,, prayer for divine light of understanding and forgiveness
and charity toward old adversaries to rise in their hearts, and simple
indication of indisputable facts showing the Orthodox Church is not apostate or
heretical that they haven't read about, and are not ready to hear yet, from me
or perhaps anyone but God. The facts are complex and require careful, patient
analysis and discussion. So I ask you not to engage in useless, provocative, and
time/wasting and hurtful polemics with them that will only put them on the
distressed/panicked defensive and make them dig in more firmly in their
obviously, but painfully for themselves to openly recognize, erroneous
positions. I know you have zeal for the right, but so did the Apostles who
wanted to rain down fire from heaven on the Samaritans who had not yet received
Christ, but Christ told them this spirit of punishing and fighting was not from
Him, Who comes only to rescue and save and
is patient and withdraws for a time until this are ready to accept Him. This is
Christ Who says we are not obligated to cast holy things before those not in a
right mind to receive them, who will only trample them and attack us. The
Apostle Paul orders Timothy and Titus not to continue disputing with people
stuck in their mistaken opinions, and that is because it is not factual dispute
holding them back from acknowledging the truth, but anger, bitterness, shame,
and hurt, and humiliation, and attachments, and only God with time and prayer
can overcome that. So, I implore you not to disturb them now, for Christ's sake,
but if you dare do that against my request, I will hold you as my enemy and an
enemy of Christ and a servant of the devil just anxious to stir up fights to
make matters worse and bind gradually awakening souls to past error more
strongly than ever, rather than meekly and patiently gradually recover them to
the truth. I will never reply to
you again and their blood be on your head forever to your punishment eternal.
AMEN. So, you are warned, you are liable for the guilt for what happens to them
and you (as St. James warns,'' Brethren be not many teachers, since these will
suffer greater judgment'')and fear the wrath of Christ if you cause them to
stumble worse by your pointless attacks, pointless not because necessarily
unworthy of hearing, but because they do not respect any of us enough to accept
any correction from us. It must come from God, to whom we can pray for their
enlightenment and return to the truth from which they unhappily have strayed as
easily happens to all of us fallible humans.
Best wishes to you, and if you accept on a promise to Christ my conditions, I
would be willing to discuss why the Russian Orthodox Church is the best place
for you and right.
SECOND EMAIL
Regarding the 1983 Anathema, the context is that in 1981 or 1982, the WCC
officially announced it expected to get agreements of mutual recognition of
Mysteries and form a super-Church by the year 2000. (See note below***) It said
the basis for mutual recognition was laid out in draft form in the 1981Lima
Statement, which it hoped all WCC members were ready to accept now. This
document is always cited by old-calendarist groups as an actual official
recognition by all WCC members, including all the Patriarchates, as an official
recognition of the mysteries of the heretics. However, I checked the WCC Lima
Document in full which is available online at its site, and the preamble says
that this is a proposal, that the signatory WCC committee members are sending
for evaluation to their respective synods and church authorities who must
approve it for it to gain official authority as a position of their churches.
Like the other infamous Balamand Statement, which
carries a similiar preamble, it has never been ratified by the Orthodox
Churches, nor has the Chambessy statement on recognizing the Monophysites. All
of these are quoted without their preambles by old calendarist writers, like
Moss, or HTM, or the Matthewites who borrow from each other without researching
the source document to verify the complete text. These writers have their own
personal reasons for being so sloppy or deceitful, and everyone else quotes from
them without checking either. They need to prove the apostasy of the Orthodox
Churches to plunder their people's souls and pocketbooks for the sustaining and
building up of their own personal church party for their vainglory and income
and to cover up mistakes and scandals that caused them to flee ROCOR or other
Orthodox Churches.
The 1965 Anathema lifting, was likewise surrounded by statements and
explanations within and along and after the text that this act did not end the
schism or dogmatic disagreements still dividing Orthodoxy and the Papacy, and
did not establish a church union or communion, but only is a preliminary gesture
of good will before starting dialogue. No one of the old calendarists reports
these things.
Finally, St Kyril of Kazan, even St Joseph of Petrograd, and ROCOR in 1974 and
afterwards state they are not concelebrating with Sergianists or New
Calendarists, because of strong disagreement with false path, and needing to
express disapproval clearly, but also not denying grace and valid mysteries
among them which only an Oecumenical Synod or PanOrthodox one could definitively
declare, rejecting old calendarist positions. Also the calendar is an error, not
a schism they said in 1961. Ergo old calendarists distort ROCOR positions,
besides ignoring repentance by Patriarchates sufficient to allow communion.
Thats all for now.
Note: You will find this news blurb if you read the old issues of the bulletin of
the the ROCOR's Dept. Of External Relations, written by Bp. Gregory Grabbe, when
he was still Secretary of the Synod, specifically the 1982 issues, (or the 1981,
I will have to check, since one of my computers was stolen recently). The whole
series of publications in English and Russian is on the roacamerica.org site of
Bishop Andrew Maklakov of Pavloskoe under ''documents''.
THIRD EMAIL
I did not do anything self-contradictory in saying that Moss as an
authority is ultimately nobody, since he is not the Church or appointed by the
Church to give her elaborations (''explanations'') of her teaching or
resolutions and he only brings arguments about what the anathema should have
been understood by ROCOR to mean, because as he repeatedly says ROCOR did not
understand its own resolutions in the sense Moss does and repeatedly acted
according to a different understanding, which Moss condemns as a
misunderstanding or misinterpretation. So, for your own enlightenment and cold
shower/ wake up call, so you realize how you are being substituted fiction for
reality, I am asking you to produce these statements you make about the
Patriarchates in actual official resolutions of the ROCOR. Otherwise you are
palming off your own pronouncements as those of ROCOR. If it is too scary for
you to attempt this yourself, then why not write to Moss to
give you official resolutions by ROCOR stating the Patriarchates are outside
the Church, in full document form just for context and accuracy guarantee. I
will tell you already he cannot do that, great historiographer though he is
reputed to be. Ponder why.
Any discussion of Moss' opinions is discussion of his opinions, not actual acts
and decisions and explanations of the ROCOR. Is it not absurd that the anathema
against Ecumenism requires whole books of explanation and argument over two
words, anathema and ecumenism, because evidently the ROCOR was afraid to simply
say the Patriarchates are graceless, heretical, outside the Orthodox Church, so
one needs Moss to write a thousand pages elucidating whom they must have been
secretly meaning. Moss who was not even a member of ROCOR since he left ROCOR in
the 70's before it was written, having himself written that Metropolitan
Philaret and his Synod were heretics and only the Matthewite Synod was Orthodox.
So, why do you think he better understood ROCOR's thoughts than all those who
stayed, including all the bishops who signed it?
About Cyprianism, I am not a Cyprianite. They hold the new calendar is anathema,
but the Church never issued any such anathema, and St. John Maximovitch and
ROCOR allowed the New Calendar in France. It is an error, even a sin against the
canons, but the Church includes sinners and transgressors of canons who have not
broken unity or left her or been cast out by her. The Cyprianites left and lost
the unity for the sake of avoiding communion with a sinner, not content to allow
Christ to punish or judge at the last day as He ordained,... thus, they
swallowed the camel, straining at the gnat.
In everything I am following divinely-glorified St. John Maximovitch and the
Church which Christ promised indefectible infallibility as clear, stable,
nondebatable, undoubtable divine path indicators, but you and those you waver
among are following the private judgments of your hearts, and lots of
'arguments' and speculative etymologies, always trying to force catastrophic
facts into being to prove you are right wherever you are, rather than allowing
the Church to be right and wiser than yourself, and hence you all have no
certainty and no stability and no unity and no consistency, but have a new
schism, a new upheaval, a new' apostasy' every year or so over competition for
positions and private interpretations of canons in measure stricter than and at
odds with historical Church practice and official decisions. One Holy Catholic
and Apostolic Church you cannot point to anywhere. You and they are each in
love with your own 'infallible B.S. detector' as
you once called your own brain, and your own privately-decided opinions and
interpretive arguments. This is not the Church, this is imitating Protestantism.
You need to get cured of it before you lose your faith entirely.
Also, Metropolitans Peter of Krutisk, Kyrill of Kazan, Joseph of Petrograd, and
Anastassy of ROCOR, with ROCOR's other Bishops all officially wrote that
Metroplitan Sergius was going against his superior church authority, sinning
against brethren by betraying theim to the persecutors, and was liable together
with themselves to a future Russian Church court's investigation and judgement,
but until that court, with its unique authority removes the priesthood's
authority to perform the mysteries it gave them from him and those with him, no
one can declare them without grace, but as they are guilty of serious sin
against their brethren, such that without repentance, it is unfitting to
concelebrate together as long as continued. The first things Patriarch Alexis II
and the Russian Church sobor did after coming out in support of Yeltsin's
democratic revolt against the Communist Party tyrrany and the KGB, which Yeltsin
beheaded, broke up, and deprived of
vestiges of power, replaced the responsible posts with new, non-Commmunists,
and outlawed the party of Soviet rule, the Bolsheviks,.. The first thing Alexis
II did was to declare repentance for the national sin of the killing of the
Royal Family, condemn as sinful and wrong past scandals and compromises made
with the KGB, and ask forgiveness and ask the ROCOR to receive petition for
communion. Then began the dialogues between ROCOR and the Patriarchate, followed
in 2000, by the first stage of the official on-going glorification of the New
Martyrs and confessors, not exclusive of those already glorified by ROCOR and
including explicitly those who had condemned Sergius's path, such as most
prominently Metropolitan Kyril of Kazan, and others, and a statement that
Sergius' declaration was doctrinally erroneous and rejected, and a doctrinal
denunciation from an Orthodox point of view of ecumenism, branch theory, and
official prohibition on co-service with
heterodox.
Did you know that Moss published biographies of all the surviving catacomb
bishops of the latter half of the 20th century and all of them were quoted as
stating that they did not deny grace in the mysteries of the albeit
sinfully-compromising sergiansts, nor did Lazar Zhurbenko, the MP priest
ordained ROCOR's first catacomb bishop inside Russia in his interview afterward
with Fr Victor Potapov, nor did those saints detailed by Seraphim Rose in
Russia's Catacomb Saints, nor did Bishop Gregory Grabbe in his Reply to Fr
Joseph Pishtey in 1960, nor did Metropolitan Valentine when we were with him
much to DS's surprise and shock, nor did Metroplitan Philaret and the ROCOR when
they declared in 1978 as also later that while they had doubts about some
leading bishops in the church administrstion, perhaps kGB frauds incapable as
atheists of ordination, they had no doubt that suffering, struggling clergy and
bishops within the Russian Church who protested against
soviet persecution and against lies told to cover it up,...they said they
acknowledge these fellow clergy and bishops and kiss the cross they are bearing
and greet them as concelebrants saying Christ is in our midst...'And Moss says
the only 'catacomb' people who denied grace in the Russian Church were
schemamonk epiphanius chernov, who went to greece and was ordained by the
uncanonical, protestanizer Matthewites....Also if you read the Epistle of St
Joseph of Petrograd to Archimandrite Lev who charged him with schism, he says
the Church will be condemning not Joseph but Sergius at the future trial to be
convoked by a future all russian church sobor, but should I be wrong, he says ,
may the Church not condemn me for my mistake made in zeal for her holy
independence which sergei is betraying, thus showing he did consider a future
trial superfluous or its verdict of schism on sergei absolutely certain, but
allowed for other possible evaluations...In the
HOCNA publication Orthodox witness, in the article online Worse than any
heresy, the apostasy and fall of the Moscow Patriarchate, Pantaleimon claims
this letter as the proof that the Church has already declared infallibly and
finally that the Russian Church is graceless schism, despite acknowleding the
contrary teaching by Metropolitan Kirill of Kazan and despite the fact that St
Joseph said he did not affirm that view for sure but submitted to the
potentially different evaluation mafe by a future SOBOR....So all pretence that
the Saints of Russia or ROCOR denied grace in mysteries of Sergianists, however
sinful, is exploded when the actual teachings of the saints and ROCOR are
studied first hand fully and reliably and not garbled snippets larded about with
pseudo-facts by ignoramus partisans of second hand pseudoquotations from
Pantaleimon, Moss, or the fanatic fantastical matthewites who put the church
into nonexistence after 1924.
Also, KGB officers are KGB members, who as Communists were required to profess
atheism and not be clergy, but agent means you did something for the KBG, namely
peace propaganda and reporting on confessions ....but the KGB is suppressed
after it tried to overthrow Yeltsin in the coup of 1991,...the heads of KGB, and
soviet army were put in prison and their underlings fired....Putin is a baptized
Orthodox who goes to church and communes regularly and talks about God and the
Church often in the press and advocates mostly the legislation the Church
advocates, such as antiabortion, antihomosexuality, and religious education in
schools, and the Church gets a percentage on the gov't's income taxes and the
right to reclaim churches and preach the faith on state tv....better than the
USA presently....He was a kKGB officer, like a CIA officer such as Bush, sr. And
a military man like Eisenhower....but he repented....do you allow repentance can
happen or not? You
live in a fantasy world sealed off from reality that you do not see and this is
a problem.....
But even if he were a hypocrite, he is not the Russian Church which has repented
and eschews the bolsheviks and all the past crimes and scandals and preaches the
dogmas and morals of unchanging Orthodoxy today, being really Orthodox in its
teaching and no more full of a mix of saints and sinners than at any other time
in the past when people are contrariwise not denied to be in the Church by you.
Your position is the one without basis in fact and without any canonical
justification of its gordian knot of self-contradictions. But I expect you will
still have eyes and not see, ears and not hear and so I just leave you to God's
mercy to enlighten and I pray what you will suffer yet again from these
delusional, self-infallible raskolniki will not destroy you but wake you up to
right and better peaceful life, which you cannot find with the ecclesiastically
shipwreck of what is today falsely called 'True Orthodoxy', but simply
pantaleimonism, matthewitism, and persons gone blind after feeding on their
frauds instead of on facts.
Also, Abp. Averky did not take the 'zealot' position, if you mean the view of no
grace in the mysteries of the New Calendarists because he and Metroplitan
Philaret and the ROCOR synod issued their view to Bishop Petros Stratigeas of
the Florinite Akakians, uncle of Metroploitan Pavlos of Astoria, of Moss' own
Kiousis Synod, and they said, in 1974, in this official statement that they
reject the ability of the Greek old calendarists or even themselves to decide
the New Calendarists have lost grace, which they say is possible only if a
PanOrthodox or Oecumenical Synod declares them to be so deprived. Abp Averky
died shortly after and after signing the resolution also to have no communion
with the old calendarist greeks until they gave up the divisive epistle
confession' of 1974, that had caused kiousis and petros and two other bishops to
quit the akakian auxentian synod,....Thus no ROCOR bishop was a 'zealot' in the
greek old calendarist sense....
your sources cited below are a book and an article by HTM/HOCHA,
which exploded and ceased to exist last year when it was confessed by the
leaders that they had deceived and lied shamelessly to people for 20 years to get
them to leave ROCOR and follow them into isolationist schism and these you
swear by? These are honest, reliable sources? I already told you why and how
they distorted the facts into fictional apostasy in my first email, regarding
monophysites, papists, etc being allegedly recognized! Read it! Also, it does
matter they are not named because that means its not you and Moss deciding who
is guilty of heresy and anathema like self appointed emissaries of God. Give up
your delusion of infallibility, you can and do and have erred about the facts...
The website you cite is the Matthewite website of Stavros Markou, who has since discovered that the Matthewites told him a bunch of lies and even gave him frauds and forgeries of documents, as he declares in his open letter posted on Joe Suiaden's Reredos site......The story is the same here with the gnisios site that it is a mix of unsourced and out of context, clipped quotes that ignore the rest of the statements of the quoted person or that seek to apply criticism of an individual chief bishop of the Russian Church as a sinner to the whole organization and to imply it is graceless, despite the official position statements of the ROCOR declaring it has no infallible ability to decide if such is true apart from an Oecumenical Synod or Pan Orthodox Synod. I have said a number of negative things about some people in the Patriarchates here, especially about the past, but if someone just quoted that and not the whole or the other emails, it would be possible to distort what I believe which is that it is wrong to be out of communion with the Patriarchates since they never left the Church or its confession of Faith although along with some saints, they have sinners in greater or lesser measure who do not know and sin in ignorance or more rarely who know but don't care. But these and us God will judge on the last day for that and pardon or punish according to His omniscient wisdom, but whom we are not given the authority to judge and punish ourselves, and to whom we can only try to be a good strict but loving example to help them keep all the traditions. Being addressed collectively and invested with the authority, the Apostles as a group and the hierarchy as a whole has the authority to cast out for obstinate grievous rebellion against divine authority, but we don't have that and even local churches can only exclude from local churches until the matter is confirmed oecumenically by all.
Of course I recognize the patriarchates as I have been saying throughout this correspondence, because sinners may be there but the confession of faith is Orthodox. Any of their parishes have Holy Communion and Confession since this is a gift of Christ as a means for all to be saved, not the result of a priest or bishop's personal merit, and so any of them fulfill the minimum of salvation. I do not know your situation and your preferences, other than you seem to want to find a monastery, which is understandable, although I wouldn't rush into any permanent commitment yet. If it were me, I would try working and being pious and visiting monasteries and parishes and doing good works for a while to see if you want a monastery for pure monastic reasons or for personal passing difficulties and weariness from past abuses in which case you might find yourself happier if you stay in a friendly parish but keep focused on Christ and try to just fulfill the basic commandments, and not be too hard on yourself since you have been through a lot and are still trooping along in faith and love toward Christ, which is a virtue too. But I am not you, and cannot tell you what is best for you personally absolutely. In my humble opinion, since I believe you are in California, I would say: Can you locate somewhere you could go to San Francisco Cathedral and be close to Saint John's Relics? (If you were closer to New York, I would send you to Jordanville, if in Washington, DC, to the cathedral and Father Victor Potapov, if near Chicago, to Bishop Peter who personally knew Saint John Maximovitch as a his altar boy, or to other places in other circumstances). I think, in my fallible opinion, that the Joy of All that Sorrow Cathedral has a nice priest and would be wonderful, since St John Maximovitch himself being there is a holy, inspiring, and balancing influence and example and his example is a guide where ever you have no earthly direction, but if you cannot go often, then go to whichever parish seems to be the most traditional in general orientation and which is accessible to you. You should be able to find a ROCOR parish, but if not, you could go to others, and find a traditional priest to confess sins to and get to pray for you, and that could even be a priest elsewhere who can correspond with you or talk on the phone with you, which if you do not find one there, I recommend two in Houston, TX, Father Lubomir Kupecz and Father John Whiteford, both ROCOR, and Father John has a lot of experience with people from our shared background. But also always remember that Saint Paisius Velichkovsky and St. Theodore the Studite and even Saint John Maximovitch did not have perfectly traditional surroundings and people but they stayed in the Church and focused on keeping the traditions themselves and avoided any harsh word of judgment on the one's who were failing or ignorant, and remember that you are not required to be the corrector of others, but only answer for your own soul and keeping the commandments and having faith and being patient and loving and forgiving. Remember what St Seraphim of Sarov said that if you will by God's grace yourself become like the saints, then many others will be drawn to your example and be saved. But of course its a struggle, a daily cross-bearing, and often you have to get up and dust yourself off from a stumble and fall, but keep going, in faith, and you will get to heaven. As for myself, I go to [deleted].
Regarding Athos, I recognize them, but you probably don't have the funds to go, and it is harder, though not impossible, if you do not speak Greek. Regarding Platina, I do not know them so well and cannot say. Obviously Father Seraphim Rose is a good example generally, but I do not know the more recent people.
I recommended the Russians because in my experience and knowledge, which admittedly are not infallible, the Russian Church is generally the most traditional in America and on the Old Calendar, which is preferable, but in a pinch not essential, but if you have no where else to go but a New Calendar Church, go there if it benefits you temporarily. Elder Ephraim's monasteries would work too, but again I wouldn't allow myself to be rushed into any permanent commitments yet however tempting that may seem since you can always go forward later, because monasteries are the boot camp of Orthodoxy and can be a little tough on you to say the least, but, like the Fathers did, lay a good foundation and get some healing and peace in a good parish for a while first and always remember that staying in the Church and guarding your peace are the most important things and that no individual is infallible or your perfect judge but always is checked against the Church as a whole, which is promised to be preserved from apostasy and error and the saints are canonized or made measuring sticks for us by the infallible Church guided by the Holy Spirit over the ages. Remember that St. John Maximovitch while keeping the Old Calendar administered New Calendar parishes and concelebrated with them since it is better to be a sinner inside the Church than a self-righteous misguided person outside of her, and that the demons can do all that we do, fast, keep vigil, etc. but they cannot be humble and cannot love and God is love and the Trinity's Unity of mind and will and life is the model for Christ's Church as He prayed. So I advise you to keep the fasts and traditions as much as possible but also without judging or disagreeing too sharply or severely with those who do not, since after all life in America and in the modern turbulent period is very hard on people, especially immigrants who come from abroad with nothing and sometimes with traumas and poverty that make it hard to be strict all the time and all of us make mistakes sometimes but this is not forever and we can pray God gradually enlighten them and we have done our duty to try to help them and God will reckon that to us for good. But you will not be condemned if they are not strict, but will answer only for yourself to Christ since you only can control you, by His grace, at least.
God bless you and help you if you go forward in this path and let me know if you need contact information or other help.
Best wishes,
P.S.
Regarding what Moss or his source say about Putin, I have heard similar things said by these same liars about St. Nikolai Velimirovich who was however loved and recognized by St John Maximovitch and also Metropolitan Chrysostom of Florina. In general, when people say things like this, ask 'how do I know?' 'how do they know?' and 'is it proven to the degree of strictness the Church demands in its canons - sworn witness testimony by Church-tested, reliable, pious Orthodox Christians two or three in number with no prior accusations of immorality or other crimes themselves' because otherwise it is just a rumor and you cannot rely on rumors, as Christ and Saint Paul condemn rumors and rumor-peddlers severely.
SIX ANATHEMAS
Regarding what Moss asserts about 6 anathemas and that the Russian Church is KGB, I already explained about that in my e-mail that starts off talking about St. Peter of Krutitsk and talks about the facts and also that the Russian Church's Patriarch and Synod repented to the ROCOR for those sins and asked pardon and for communion and after a searching examination and discussion in the dialogues, that is what happened after their side satisified the requirements of ROCOR,....As for the KGB, etc., read what I explained about the KGB officers and agents in my email that starts off talking about St. Peter of Krutitsk .....and, as an aside, I would have you know that Moss himself is the son of a British diplomat, an agent of the British Government which everyone but you apparently knows is the head of world-wide Freemasonry, Darwinism, Imperialism, and rapacious globalist capitalism and its materialistic humanistic ecumenism, hence Moss's family are British spies or propagandists basically, and don't you know that the British government helped fund Tito and Ho Chi Min and Mao ZeTung and other communists and they backed the February Revolution against the Tsar and also don't you know that the British government is composed of stooges, employees and relatives of the Rothschilds, the Schiffs, the Warburgs, and the general world freemason banker conspiracy?......but for all that, I am willing to allow that Moss may not be a Freemason's stooge, MI-6 or a double agent of some other power. :-) Tongue in cheek. But really, you never know the secret motivations of some people, and you probably didn't know his background/past that I told you about, which I got from Moss himself and Metropolitan Valentine and Bishop Theodore and others who know Moss quite well. He is also the head of the British-based Russian Imperial Monarchist Society, which is a political party, albeit a tiny one, that wants to undermine the current regime in Russia, and so he engages in the propaganda war of politicians, which is notoriously slapdash and sloppy with facts in their mud-slinging.
But hopefully you are leaving the bubble of the Moss/HOCNA/Matthewite apocalypse fantasy.....
About Saint Ignatius' views, you do not make an exact quote, but I would say that he wrote that in the early-19th century just about the time that Optina with its holy clairvoyant elders was about to become famous for a whole century enlightening the world. So you have to look at the context and not just the quote.
Best wishes." END

Please note, like cults Old Calendarist pseudo-Orthodox people engage in thought stopping techniques. They are not allowed to be critical of their system. Any kind of critique or analysis of their erroneous stance registers as persecution; and they put loyalty to group above truth or above one's own reason and conscience. (Team Player Fallacy). If after coming into possession of the facts, you chose to remain with the Old Calednarists, I would argue that you could be suffering from mind control. Ergo, I recommend you read "Combatting Cult Mind Control," by Steven Hassan. Also consider learning about unsafe religious groups/leaders, at the Cult Education Institute.

I already answered your question, but you apparently read right past it. Read it

holding them back from acknowledging the truth, but anger, bitterness, shame,
and hurt, and humiliation, and attachments, and only God with time and prayer
can overcome that.
