Why I Left the Old Calendarists

[Note by me: Contrary to the authors assertion, we never engaged in debates. There are no old debates. I simply asked him some questions, and he wrote these long and detailed responses. At the beginning of his presentation, he questioned my motives, which is a fallacy (Appeal to Motive).   "Greeting in Jesus Christ our Savior. I hope you are well. I already answered your question, but you apparently read right past it. Read it again carefully and you will see there is no '' true orthodox'' group to which I could belong, but only the really *one* undivided communion of Orthodox churches. We can discuss that another time.... all the ''true orthodox'' groups have strayed following Pantaleimonite and Matthewite fabrications, exaggerations, and mutilated distortions of the published statements of 20th century saints and synods of all groups.  We can talk about that in detail at a later, better date. But even without that, do you really believe [deleted...

Logical Fallacies

There are many more logical fallacies. These are just some of them.   Courtesy of Craig Hawkins. Professor Hawkins has taught logic for over twenty-five years.   Ad Hominem Argument : Also, "personal attack," "poisoning the well." The fallacy of attempting to refute an argument by attacking the opposition’s personal character or reputation, using a corrupted negative argument from ethos. Appeal to Closure . The contemporary fallacy that an argument, standpoi...

Re: "Why The True Orthodox Are Truly Orthodox"

"Greeting in Christ. I hope you are well. I looked over the article. Just to be clear, its an article criticizing what another priest said criticizing the History of the Old-Calendarists. I don't necessarily agree with every assertion, as for example that the Florinites were abandoned by God because a bishop wasn't ordained in 1955 (but several were later in 1960's). I will give you my understanding/view, which agrees and sometimes disagrees with his. Please understand that I am just giving you my view, not inviting a reply or debate. At the end of this e-mail I direct to others who may answer any further questions you may have. I know we've been over this ground several times before, so I'm going to refer you back to what I've written you before for anything not addressed here. I'm going to address what I consider the key evidence cited and show briefly that it doesn't mean what they say or its misleadingly cited out of context, w...
